(We wish you could) come for a walk with us!

Today we went for our morning walk on the beach. We check the tide tables every day so that we can walk at "low tide". We like to walk when the tide is out for two reasons. First, it is much easier to walk on the hard sand by the water, and second, there are many more "treasures" to see at low tide.We have seen crabs that the seagulls have had for breakfast, starfish, and little things called sea anemones. One of may favorite things to find is what is called a sunburst starfish. They can have over twenty legs! (We have seen one with 20.) Sometimes at the end of the beach we see surfers. It is so fun to watch them try to find that perfect wave. I would think it would be very cold in that water! I think the thing we get the most excited about is when we spot a whale! We see whales at least half the time we go to the beach. Sometimes there is one and sometimes there are a few. Everyone on the beach loves to see the whales spouting and showing their huge tails!
We have always liked going for morning walks, but these morning walks are "heavenly!"
And when we come home our house is full of the best "momentos." We have a whole new type of decor..."Early Driftwood!"

Picking Berries, Baking Pies!

Well, we have discovered two of our favorite pastimes...picking blackberries and baking rhubarb pies. (There are never enough berries left to make pies, we eat them as we pick!) Every day when we go for our walk to the beach we pass many blackberry bushes. So, we stop and pick the berries (something akin to stoping to smell the roses, I suppose.) So, by the time we get to the beach we have purple smiles on our faces.
Our friend Jeanne Anderson (introduced to us by R.J.) gave us some fresh rhubarb from her garden. Today I baked a rhubarb pie and I have decided one of my favorite activities is pie baking on a beautiful day. After the pie was in the oven, I washed the dishes while I watched tons of birds fly around my back yard. Just a beautiful morning I will remember for a long time!

Time with Tim and Katy

We have been here in Port Orford for three whole weeks. I was thinking back to our moving days and how nice it was to have Tim and Katy here with us. They seemed to love Oregon and it was so fun to watch them at the animal petting park in Bandon. They were having as much fun as Sarah's kids. I hope they will always want to come for summer visits here, at least until they can call Oregon home too?

Visits from Sarah and David

We also had two visits from Sarah and David the first week we were here. They helped us put away some things and then we played and played. Their kids love the beach! ( Not any more than their parents!) They also love the animal park. It is wonderful to know they are only 6 hours away in Portland.

Our New Little Home

Here are some pictures of our new home. We are almost finished unpacking and it feels like "home sweet home" for sure. We love our walks on the beach every day. We did not know there was anyplace on earth that could be so peaceful!

Loving it but lonely!

I cannot believe that I am actually blogging! However, I am loving everyone's blogs so much and you have all encouraged me , so here I am "joining the blogging club"! I will be adding some awesome pictures as soon as Dad and I figure out how to put them into the computer. (We are a bit "electronically lame", I know!)

We are so very happy here in our little Port Orford. We have walked to the beach every day since we arrived. Dad has already lost about 10 lbs and he is feeling better every day. We are almost finished unpacking books and cds and the house is feeling like home. I just live for the news that we might have company. Val and Dan are coming the first week of September. That might help my loneliness a bit.

Also, we are on the hunt for the "perfect companion"...A DOG! I will be sure to get the picture thing down so I can put her (hope it's a girl) on too.

Well, this first attempt is now ready... I am officially a blogger....love it!!
